Skiing on MLK Day

ADK has not been skiing for 2-3 years. Today he decided he want to try skiing again so he grab his dad's gear and off we went. He did pretty good for not skiing for a few years. He just did not feel comfortable so gave up after the first run and switch back to his snow board. Must say he is a much better boarder but that is just because he did not give the long board time.

ELK also switch to snow boarding after the first run. It has bee a few years for him for snowboarding. He did great his first run and stuf with it until lunch. His legs were getting tired so he switched back to skiis. It is much easy for him to ski.

Elk and Mom enjoying the sunny day on the hill. Catching a few rays on the chair lift ride up the hill.

ADK was a big help to ELK. He help do the binding up just about every trip. Mainly because ELK is a little slow getting the binding done up and ADK does not like waiting. It's OK if the family is waiting on him but he does not like waiting on the family.

ELK and ADK found some realy good jumps in the afternoon. This ADK catching some air.

What a great day!

ADK - Wrestling

ADK had his first wrestling match Thrusday, Jan 13, 2010 at Sunridge Middle School in Pendleton.
They were broke up into groups of four according to weight. He was matched with BY from Central, LaGrande, and Hermiston. BY is one of his best friends and he knew going into that match he was going to loss because BY has wrestled for many years and is very quick and a great wrestler.

ADK and BY wrestled in the first round of matches. The two were smiling and laughing through the whole match. I think that BY took it easy on ADK so they could wrestle all three rounds. BY won in points. Both boys left the mat smiling and joking.

Yeah I made it through the match without BY pinning me! Had fun wrestling him because I knew I was going to lose.

ADK second match was against a kid from Hermiston. This was a hard match for him. ADK lost that one in points also.

His third match was against a kid from LaGrande. Almost pinned him in the second round but ran out of time....or was it steam....

ADK pulled through and won his last match.

Dog Sitting

The brother-in-law is gone to Mexico for a week so we are babysitting the dogs. Sammie, the small one is staying at our house and sleeping with ELK. She came with her own pillow and blanket.

Sammie is the one eyed dog. She lost one eye a few months ago. She has so much hair that you can hardly tell she is missing an eye.

Piglets

The boys have joined the Hogs Wild 4H club and are raising pigs to show at Junior Show this May. Junior Show is always held on Mothers Day Weekend. This will be the boys first time to be involved in 4H.
ELK and HY checking out the pigs trying to decide which one they want to chose.

Oink...Oink....Oink. They pick up 20 pigs this morning in Pullman, WA from WSU.

Here is the pig that Evan chose. It is a female pig and is marked with the orange E.

Aren't they cute.

ADK hold ELK's pig when it gets the ear tag. The tag is so the kids can tell the pigs apart.

The guys are installing the temporary walls in so the pigs can have some shelter from the cold weather. When it warms up the walls will come down again.

The pigs new housing. ADK's pig is the one on the right marked with the orange K.

Oh what fun lies ahead for the family learning about how to raise and show pigs. Never thought I would become a pig farmer. We are hoping to get help from Rick's nephew who is in college studying agriculture and plans to be a pig farmer. He lives in Pendleton and has shown pigs in High School. Oh do we need help.

Happy 50th Birthday

Saturday, Jan 2nd was Rick's 50th Birthday.

Since it fell on a Saturday I thought it would be great to host a surprice birthday party for him. It was hard getting stuff done when he was at the house but we did. One of his HS friends Dave came over for the weekend with his wife Bonnie. Rick's Sister, Anna and husband Shaun also were over for the weekend. Rick knew something was up.

Anna brought the stuff to make Tomalies so we started making those while the guys all went out for a birhtday drink at the Elks and while they were gone I was busy getting stuff done at the house.

I made a quick board that had picutres of Rick through out his life. It was fun looking back remember the "Younger Days"

The guest all arrived and then Rick and the guys showed up.

Rick was surprised that so many people were there. He thought there would be just a few people. There was around 45 people that attended. It was lots of fun.

The best part of the evening was watching rick open is GAG gifts and reading the cards. He was having a hard time and needed his glasses because most of the print was small.

In fact someone was nice enough to give him a new pair of glasses but he seam to have problems using them to read.

He even received a magnifying glass w/ light to use. That helped.
