Hogs Wild 4H Club

We have 10 members this year and two want to be's in a few years.

Since the boys pigs were 1 pound apart they ended up in the same class for confirmation. The judge said there pigs were about 1 week over done and shelffy. Don't know what shelffy is and I guess the judge could smell the bacon frying and that why there were one week over due. He said they would have done much better if the show was one week earlier. I don't understand his reasoning. The pigs weighed 261 & 260 lbs and ended up with red ribbons for confirmation. I think it is because both pigs have the Kain trait of short legs. Stumpy pigs.

Spring break in Arizona

Balance Rock near Page Arizona. We left home at 4pm and drove through the night so that we could watch the sun rise at Balance Rock. It was a nice hike in and a great way to strech teh legs after 13 hours in the truck.

Off to sunny Arizona

If all goes well we will be in Page Arizona Friday morning and hike into Horsebend on the Colorado River and do some geocaching.

 Then we will head towards Sedona and drive the Schnebly Hill Rd down into Sedona and check out all the red rock formations.

All-Around

ADK first time showing a horse....

and a goat....

and a sheep....

and a dairy cow...

and a steer...

ADK did a great job since it was his first time showing 5 of the 6 animals.

Emma Wells form Milton-Freewater won the Grandchampionship for showmanship.

Swine Champship Round

During the competition the judge took the kids canes away and had them work the pigs with just their hands. ADK actually liked working his pig with out the cane and did very well. The pig also did well with out the cane.

In this round the judge opened the gate into the ring and the kids had to keep their pigs in the ring. If the pig went out they were out of the competition. ADK did a great job of keeping the pig on the other side on the ring. There were 2 or 3 kids that could not keep their pigs away.

Andrew won award the Grand Champion Showmanship ribbon for the Swine division. Now he goes on to compete in the All-Around where he has to show 6 different type of animals.

Mom and Dad are very proud of ADK.
